Gotta love new stuff.

Especially appliances! Billy cleaned out our "icebox" freezer yesterday because the ice was threatening to take over....but he ended up puncturing it, and the fridge was kaput. We were worried the landlord would be mad, but he actually thanked Billy for breaking it. Turns out there were only three old ones like it left in the building and they wanted to replace them, so he had a bigger and better fridge waiting! It has its own freezer door, instead of being a little compartment in the fridge. Now I have to buy more food to fill it up :P Its a relief though, because now we can fit way more food in the freezer and I can freeze leftovers if I have to.

I had the lasagna florentine I made for lunch yesterday. I would've eaten it for dinner too, but wanted a little variety, so I made the vegetable biryani from La Dolce Vegan with some fresh corn. It was so good and satisfying. I wondered how well cinnamon and ginger would fit into the equation, but they add such great taste without being completely obvious. This delectable dish has brown basmati rice, red lentils, organic chickpeas, organic tomato, carrot, peas, onion, garlic, fresh mint and spices. I can't wait to eat the leftovers today for lunch. I love that it has rice, lentils and chickpeas....healthy!

Wow, that looks scrumptious.

Glad you had a happy ending to the fridge incident!

Thanks! The biryani is even better the next day. The spices have time to sit and add even more flavour to the dish.

Hooray for the new fridge! And snaps to your landlord for taking the initiative on that -- I once lived in an apartment building and our fridge broke, and it took them THREE WEEKS to replace the fridge. I had to throw out over a hundred bucks worth of food. Once I wrote them a letter (with a detailed list of everything I threw out, including prices,) explaining why I would be deducting a hundred dollars off my next month's rent, they sent me a check and replaced my fridge within two days. Not a fun time.

Catherine, wow, that's horrible. That was what I was afraid of too. At least you took some action and got some money back.

Urban vegan...that's what I said :P
I was in the kitchen all afternoon yesterday cooking and storing food!

I think we overcompensated though. Our food was getting pretty warm so when we got the new fridge we cranked the dial to max for coldness...yesterday I found my lime perrier frozen solid, with the lid popped off!
